Gone Medieval: how to keep fit in the middle ages
If your new year's resolutions include getting more exercise, drinking less, or eating well, you might be surprised to know that medieval people were every bit as interested as we are in becoming, being and staying healthy.
The podcast sheds light on the medieval perspective on exercise and health, revealing that people from this era were proactive about maintaining their well-being. Historical documents, such as fitness guides from the Middle Ages, demonstrate an interest in exercise for achieving health and balance. These guides emphasized the six nonnaturals: diet, environment, exercise, sleep, expulsion, and psychological state, all aimed at managing bodily humors and maintaining equilibrium.
An adventure for tweens and listeners of all ages, Live from Mount Olympus weaves timeless Greek myths with the artistry of foremost contemporary theater-makers and the imaginative power of audio. Hermes, god of storytellers, travelers, and thieves (Tony Award-winner André De Shields) is our host. (on Spotify)
